The Wedding with the Most Altitude: Your No-BS Guide to Heli ‘I Do’s
Your no-BS guide to heli-wedding magic, logistics, and jaw-dropping photos
So you’re thinking about getting married on a mountain.
Not like, “Oh let’s hike to a cute lookout.”
We mean heli-skiing, heart-racing, snow-in-your-lashes, vows-at-10,000-feet kind of mountain.
Yeah. That kind.
We’ve not only photographed heli-weddings (yes, in full gear, dangling from choppers {j/k they don’t let us do that}, cameras strapped to our bodies like action heroes)—we live for this kind of love story. And here’s the kicker: I (Sherry) am also a travel advisor. So whether it’s finding the right heli company, navigating permits, or making sure your dress doesn’t freeze mid-flight, we’ve got you covered from planning to “I do.”
This isn’t your grandma’s backyard wedding (unless grandma’s a backcountry skier). This is a full-blown, no-fluff guide to pulling off a heli-wedding that’s stunning, safe, and straight-up unforgettable.
Ready to embrace the altitude? Let’s fly.
🚁 Why Choose a Heli-Wedding?
Because nothing says we’re not like other couples like taking a helicopter to your ceremony location.
But beyond the cool factor (and the frankly unbeatable views), here’s why a heli-wedding just hits different:
Privacy. No crowds, no noise, no uninvited cousins. Just you, your person, and a whole lot of sky.
Adventure. This is the kind of story that gets told for generations. It’s not just a wedding—it’s an experience.
Epic photos. Snow-dusted cliffs. Golden-hour peaks. Your veil whipping in the wind like a Vogue cover shoot. Let’s just say your wedding album will not be basic.
🧭 Planning Essentials (Without Panic)
Let’s break it down. Here’s what you need to make this magic happen:
1. Book a legit heli operator
Safety matters. Work with companies that specialize in heli-weddings or heli-skiing adventures. They know weather patterns, landing zones, and what’s actually safe for two humans in wedding gear.
2. Get your permits in place
Remote BC locations often need permits for both landings and photography. We can help you figure it out, or better yet—handle it for you.
3. Dress for altitude
Bring the dress, yes. But also fleece-lined tights, snow boots, and a jacket that won’t ruin your vibe (we’ve got Photoshop, don’t worry). Bonus points if your outfit layers like an onion with style.
4. Keep the guest list tight
Helicopters are not party buses. Plan for an ultra-intimate elopement or ceremony—think just the two of you, your officiant, and us with cameras. And maybe a bottle of champagne.
5. Don’t forget your vows
Print them. Waterproof them. Tattoo them on your arm. Just don’t leave them in the car.
📸 What Makes the Photos So Dang Good?
Light: At high altitudes, the light is pure magic. Less haze, softer tones. pure blue skys
Backdrops: You’re on a freaking glacier. Or an untouched alpine ridge. Enough said.
Emotion: The awe of standing on top of the world with your person? It shows. And we capture every second of it.
Add windblown hair, adrenaline, snow-dusted lashes and you’ve got the recipe for your most iconic portraits ever.
💬 Brent & Tina’s Heli-Wedding
Brent & Tina weren’t looking for a ballroom. They wanted untouched snow, thin air, and the kind of freedom only found above the tree line. So we flew with them to Currie Mountain, just outside of Pemberton—deep in the kind of wilderness where the only thing louder than the silence is your heartbeat.
At the summit, Brent rocked a black snow suit, white mid-layer, and a bow tie—because even snowboarders can bring the style. Tina was head-to-toe in white, floating against the alpine like the snow herself showed up for vows. It was wild, it was cold, and it was freaking beautiful.
They said “I do” surrounded by jagged peaks and a sky so open it made everything else feel small. And then? They dropped in.
Tina clicked into her skis. Brent strapped on his board. And together they carved their first turns as a married couple—fresh tracks, big grins, and no guests to worry about. David followed behind with two cameras strapped on and a GoPro mounted to his helmet, capturing every turn as they made their way down the mountain.
They wrapped the day with a private dinner at Nita Lake Lodge, boots off, cheeks flushed, still riding that post-wedding adrenaline rush.
